False Evidence

Now the plan is accomplished and the two conspirators start to celebrate just as Karrin's heart drops. Not very nice. I wonder now why I even read it this way! I must have a dark side. I did enjoy painting the series though. I had planned to do four more, and I may still do them, but for now I want a break. I need to paint in other colors and outdoors is so beautiful this time of year that I don't want to miss it! So farewell to the Fresca Grill...for now...I know I will be back there in paint and in life!

A Little Break

This is a little watercolor that I painted of my Martini Brahmin Handbag that is hanging on my wall. It is not for sale for two reasons, first it is in my notebook and second, I painted it with my left hand because my right hand and back are very tired so I am giving them a rest. Not too bad for my left hand!



This is a picture of all the paintings in the Fresca Grill Series so far. I like the way they look all together but, alas, there was interest shown in one so it looks like the set will be broken.




Here I am on the left with my sister, AnnMarie on the right. We are at Fresca Grill and since she is the one to get me painting again after a 14 year lapse, I had to include her on this blog. It is dedicated to her after all! What a great time we had there Tuesday night! She goes back home half way across the United States in less than a week. I will spend as much time with her as I can. I want her to be my model for a painting. :-)

Forged Evidence

Here is Karrin, soon to be holding the forged letter...it is not painted in yet so you have to use extra imagination for this one. The conspirators are huddled in the background.

This one is not finished because my painting arm is tired and I want to rest it. But I am still trying for a painting a day, so here it is. I painted the majority of this one with my left hand. That made for slow going and an unfinished painting.

He Knows

My sister AnnMarie came down from Michigan today and guess where she wants to go on her first night here.
That is right... Fresca Grill! So as soon as I am done with this post, I am off to meet her there!

Well it is a good thing someone was watching out for Karrin. This man saw the whole thing.

Hearing a False Rumor

Now the conspirator delivers a false rumor. The woman at the bar listens incredulously. The news is something that she did not want to hear...but she will wait for evidence...this rumor can't be true!

I enjoyed painting our new model, Karrin. I have known her since she was eleven years old and this year she seems to have suddenly turned into a woman! Thanks, Karrin for joining us in this project! I think I will have to make some of these into larger works!

The Conspirators

I get the feeling that these two are up to no good...well actually I asked them to pose this way. I wanted something romantic but Alexandra and Jared are just friends and I should have had her pose with her boyfriend but...if I had, I would not have this little drama of intrigue working its way out in paint, now would I? So it turned out for the best that Jared had a little sneer and Alex look a bit uncomfortable. What could they be conspiring about? Well, you will have to come back to see...anyway, I give no details so you can make the conspiracy about anything you want. Fresca Story-Forged Confession

Here is a continuation of the story. Again it is Jared and he was writing something totally unrelated to forged confessions...although really I am not sure because I don't know what he wrote but I do know I made up the forgery part for my painted drama series! That night gave me a lot of great material. Thanks again to Victor, owner of Fresca Grill for the beautiful setting. My friend, Jane is celebrating her birthday there tomorrow. Wise woman...that is exactly where I would choose to go!

Fresca Story - The Dilemma

This is the second painting in the series set at Fresca Grill. Both the lighting and the models were so dramatic that I have decided to make a painted mini-series. The titles of the work will be the only explanation. I will let your imagination fill out the rest.

Fresca Grill, The Story Begins

Last night I went to an amazing new restaurant in New Bedford on Rivet Street called Fresca Grill. I wanted to paint the inside of the gorgeous old brick building and Victor Vieira, the owner, was great to allow me to bring in a crew of models for my daily blogs! The atmosphere and the incredble food had me staying much longer than I intended. The sea bass on a foundation of truffled polenta with avocados and grilled tomatoes had me transported out of my everyday existence. This sounds dramatic but that is the essence of the Fresca Grill. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Looking through my material from that night, I found it read like a scrambled drama. I have decided to try to tell this mini drama through my daily paintings so stay tuned and read the titles to follow the story! Special thanks to Tasha who not only waited on us but is tonight's model and to Victor who so gracously let me use his beautiful restaurant as the setting!

Long Day

I am very luck to have a daughter who plays along with me and will be my model. My favorite poses are the ones in which she stops posing and just relaxes. She flops herself down and suddenly there is the painting! Tonight, she and some friends will be my models in a new Restaurant in the city called Fresca. If all goes well, tomorrow’s blog will be a restaurant scene.

I am a huge fan of Turk’s in Mattapoisett. No doubt about it, Taka is amazing! He makes the most beautiful, delicious sushi my sister AnnMarie and I have ever had and she travels all over in search of great sushi. The best part is that Taka is always happy to see me…and everyone else. He beams with energy and excitement as he works his magic making food to fill the crowded rooms and stunningly delicate flowers from vegetables! Trees along the Buttonwood Pond

This was an amazingly beautiful day. The sun was bright and clear but the strangest thing was that it would just start to rain with the sun fully shining! Big rain fell twice for 10 minutes or so and the sun and rain together just intensified all of the colors. The tree bark became dark and the leaves just became shiney and brighter! It was stunning! It was so warm that people at Buttonwood Park just let it rain on them as they walked around accepting the refreshing showers! Great to be part of such a gorgeous day!

Goulart Square Bakery

This is Goulart Square Bakery on Rivet Street in the South End of New Bedford. They carry a fantastic Portuguese corn bread. The woman in the painting was kind enough to let me do my thing so I could do this painting for my blog. I don't know her name yet but the next time that I go in, I will ask her and then update this post. At one time I lived right down the street from this bakery and would walk here on a weekend morning to buy the bread still warm out of the oven. Lilly Tending

I love this flower shop. It is called Sowle the Florist and it is in the North End of New Bedford. It is run by a sweet Portuguese couple who have owned it for thirty years. They bring me in the back and let me pick out my flowers with them. This is one of the owners. He is removing the rust colored pollen leaving the flowers amazingly beautiful. This is one of my favorite places to go. Buying flowers at the grocery store is so impersonal. There are still many family owned unique stores and places to eat in this area. I plan to paint a few of the best.

Happy Birthday, AnnMarie!

This is my first official daily blog posting. I have finally gotten all of the materials ready that I need to make this a daily practice. During the next days I will go public via e mail, press etc. It is my intention to daily paint the things that make life worth living. Painting with this in mind is for me a meditation on gratitude, leaving me happier and maybe even a bit wiser to have had taken the time to absorb what gives life value to me. Speaking of which, I must paint my sister, AnnMarie! Today is also AnnMarie’s birthday! I have chosen to start the daily painting on this day in her honor for it is a fact that without her encouragement I would not have developed the confidence to become a professional portrait artist. She had all the faith in me that I did not. She helped talk me through the daunting fear of my first commissions. She helped me gain confidence and as a result, she has single handedly help to change my life into something that I truly look forward to every morning.

Today’s painting, Little Woman “A” was made as a complement to the previous post, Little Girl “A” that I painted 14 years ago. The two are both of my daughter who will be 17 years old in a few weeks! She has lost her blond hair and has grown to be so beautiful inside and out. Even her brother felt I nailed her image.

Oh my God. Finally it looks like her…I really love how it looks close up.

Little Girl "A"

Okay... This is a 6"x6" painting that I made but it does not count toward a daily painting because I painted it in 1994. It was done when my children were little..my daughter here was only two years old. I had just been gifted a huge book of Rembrandt's works and I was inspired. I was new to painting (just over a year) and thought I would go into as a profession but that idea got put on hold until 2008 when I took a summer off to study with some of the best. This work was made with dissolved oil pastels in Linquin. It was my first attempt in the medium. I won't sell it because of sentimental reasons...you understand. I just put it here to give you some thing to look at and something to read!

Not Daily Yet!

I think that it will be a while before I can make a painting a day. I am exhauted and dehydrated from a few weeks of a groolong schedule, staying up too late and generally not taking the best care of myself. I would think that I would know by now how important good food, plenty of water and sleep are to me. ha...I am always tempted to try going without these when there are more fun things to do like painting! I hate to have to put it off in order to sleep or eat or do laundry! This is a start of a painting of a man outside of the Bristol County Court House in downtown New Bedford.

Youth Summer Service Corp

I was taking photos this morning at Buttonwood Park and on my way to leave, a group of teens asked me to take their picture. So of course I did. When they asked what I was going to do with them, I told them...if any come out good, I will make a painting out of it and post it on my blog. So here it is. I don't know the model's name but he did a great job posing. So if you happen to see this post, thank you! One of your friends may be next :-). P.S. Thanks to the whole corp for the great work you are doing in the park. It looks so much better!
