Alex, Ana and Olivia

SOLD
Here is the my painting of the day, or should I say month! This one was very hard to do on a 15cm x 15cm panel. I loved the challenge, though! I find that I really like painting baby Olivia in her Mother's arms. She looks so comfortable there! I also like the way Alex holds up his pants to keep them from getting too wet! I really like this one!

This painting is no longer available.

First Attempt at Little Girl

Today I got to work a bit more on the big painting. I got more done on the little girl. I decided to paint her holding the pebble in her hand that she had picked up on the beach. She still needs a few more days of work but it is coming along a bit ahead of schedule so that makes me very happy.

Underpainting

Today I got the chance to cover nearly all of the canvas. I am blocking in where everything goes and trying to get the colors pretty accurate. After Christmas, I will continue to develop the painting and will keep you posted on the progress. The hours of good natural light are very short this time of year. When do the days start getting longer?

The Shell Seekers

SOLD
This is an oil study that I did today of a Father and his daughter . They are part of a commission of a family portrait that I am starting this week. I am trying to familiarize myself with the subjects a bit before I start putting the whole family together. They are on a beach in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. I let them be as natural as possible and I like the way that turned out. It allowed me the chance to observe their personalities and how they interact with one another. Such a sweet family... I am enjoying every stage of this commission.

Taka

I am a huge fan of Turk’s in Mattapoisett. No doubt about it, Taka is amazing! He makes the most beautiful, delicious sushi my sister AnnMarie and I have ever had and she travels all over in search of great sushi. The best part is that Taka is always happy to see me…and everyone else. He beams with energy and excitement as he works his magic making food to fill the crowded rooms and stunningly delicate flowers from vegetables! I sit at the counter if there is an open seat so we can catch up on each other’s lives while I eat and he creates! Pure happiness!Oil on Panel / 5.9” x 5.9” / 15cm x 15cm

Preliminary Sketches

Friday morning we had the photoshoot for the next portrait commission which is of a sweet family of five. I got the first chance I've had since getting the photos in on Saturday night to sit down and start sketching out composition ideas. This is just one of three ideas that I am working on. Not quite sure which I will go with for the final work because, if all goes as planned, the family will choose from two or three of them. Lots of little details to work out first to make it really work.
